Speech Sound Assessments and Therapy

When your child has difficulty producing specific sounds when speaking. Our standardized assessments enable us to determine which sounds a child can or can not say and determine if the speech errors are developmentally appropriate.

We employ different therapy techniques depending on a child’s deficits and needs, including: verbal, tactile and visual cueing, teaching tongue, teeth, jaw and lip placement, practice at the sound, syllable or word, phrase or sentence level and motor planning approaches.

Language Assessment and Therapy

Receptive Language is what a child understands for example, following commands.

Expressive Language is how a child communicates for a variety of purposes, A child who is behind in expressing or understanding can benefit from an assessment of language skills. Language testing is used for a variety of purposes, academic ability, developmental milestones, to assess strengths and weaknesses in areas of concern.

Therapy can consist of child led play where strategies are implemented to instruct, model and build a child’s language skills.

Gestalt Language Development and Therapy

Many neurodivergent children and Autistic children are gestalt language processors. To assess their Language Development we use observation, their interests and child led play to obtain a language sample when possible of how they are currently communicating. These children often exhibit immediate and delayed echolalia or “scripting” of favorite songs, shows or phrases they have heard in their environment. Non speaking and minimally speaking children can also be gestalt language processors.

In therapy, we use the Natural Language Acquisition Framework (Blanc 2012) to facilitate a child moving through the 6 stages of gestalt language development.
